Conditions of the Sale
CONDUCT OF THE SALE
The aim of the sale is to provide paddock ready rams that have performed under conditions their progeny will experience in commercial production. Rams in the sale have been raised under paddock conditions, with no feeding or housing since birth. The rams have been checked by an independent Veterinarian on the day of the sale so purchasers can be confident that they are ready to join.
Entry into the sale is by invitation. Vendors suspected of breaching the conditions of entry may not be invited to participate in future sales.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
1. Restricted to invited registered Merino and Poll Merino Studs.
2. Both one year old and two year old rams are eligible.
3. NO SUPPLEMENTARY FEEDING of rams is allowed from day of birth until day of sale, except during periods of Official Drought Declaration.
4. No housing or rugging of sheep allowed.
5. Rams to be shorn no earlier than 1st August and to be shorn as normal flock sheep are shorn.
6. New England Fibre Testing, Walcha, must test all rams’ fleeces. Yield, CFW%, Fibre Diameter, Diameter Deviation, CV%, and Standard Deviation figures for individual sale rams, as well as flock averages for yield and fibre diameter will be drawn from each flock test report. ALL THESE FIGURES MUST BE SUPPLIED. Flock tests must be taken at the pre-sale shearing.
7. The average Fibre Diameter of each vendor's major fleece line for the past 5 years will be supplied. This line must be from grown sheep, not hoggets.
8. Rams to be penned by 10.00 am on day of sale, and selling will commence at 1 pm.
9. A Veterinarian will inspect all rams at the Sale venue. Rams suspected of being abnormal will be withdrawn from sale and must be removed from the sale pens.
10. All rams must be from an ACCREDITED BRUCELLOSIS FREE FLOCK.
11. All rams must be from a flock MONITORED NEGATIVE FOR OVINE JOHNE'S DISEASE and have more than 6 ABC points
12. No additional pen signs will be permitted, except for substitute rams.
13. Selling order will be determined by stud averages of rams offered at the previous sale, with new vendors drawing for last position within the appropriate age group.
MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
Each participating stud was required to carry out the following procedure:
1. To identify each ram either by ear tag or horn brand.
2. Shear their rams on or after 1st August.
3. The fleece from each ram was weighed at shearing and a sample was removed from each fleece.
4. The samples were forwarded to New England Fibre Testing, Walcha for testing. This testing provides individual information on clean fleece weight, yield and fibre diameter for each ram.
